Lone Working Policy (May 26 LW2)

For safety reasons Craigavon Area Foodbank aims to ensure that no staff or volunteers are ever at risk working alone.

Being alone includes being the only person in the building as well as being in an area out of sight of other workers.

Risk assessments covering any potential lone working should be undertaken. The risk assessments should establish the appropriate security measures necessary to improve the safety of a lone worker in a particular location.

Staff or Volunteers should not enter the Warehouse or Distribution Centres until the Manager or another Volunteer is present.  Should another a second person not arrive by the time the Warehouse or Distribution Centre is due to open, the Manager should be contacted.  The Manager will either attend or arrange for another Volunteer to attend.

Ladders, steps and other equipment such as pallet lifters and steps must not be used unless the Manager or another Volunteer is beside them.

Workers must not exceed safe lifting weights, even if this means that a job will have to wait until other workers are present.

If delivering food to a clients home, volunteers should either have someone accompany them, or tell a family member where they are going and when they should be expected home. Volunteers should avoid entering a clients home, placing the food parcel on the doorstep unless the client is clearly unable to lift it themselves.

Management to review this policy and associated procedures on a regular basis (if there is an incident or change of Legislation) and revise policy and procedures as the need arises.
